I've been looking at various reproductions for a while now, and since other products from this firm were well reviewed, I decided to take one for the team (possibly) and report back.As noted, the photo is somewhat misleading, as it appears to be of an actual Knoll table, or one of the Italian reproductions. The key is that graceful narrowing as the stem approaches the base, and this Lexington table does not have that; also, the "foot" of the base is a bit chunkier. However, it is far, far better than the stovepipe appearance of the Ikea and CB2 offerings. It won't be noticeable in service, so I am satisfied. Attachment of the tabletop to the base isn't quite as elegant, either; here, we have four exposed nuts and threaded studs. Again, they're down underneath and won't be seen by anyone that isn't looking for them. I intend to find some white plastic caps to smooth over their appearance. The table arrived promptly after ordering it, and although well wrapped for the transit, both boxes showed signs of damage incurred during shipping. Upon opening them, the base was badly cracked at the very bottom, and the table top was also scuffed in 3 different spots in a row along the edge. I took pictures, notified the company, and was promptly delivered a second table. This one survived transit much better, the table top had a single tiny scuff spot along the edge, but I can deal with it. I suspect this type of minor damage is a nearly unavoidable product of the packing/shipping.The table is listed as having an aluminum base. While the core of the base may very well be aluminum or some other metal, the outer shell is fiber glass mesh with a lacquer coating baked on. I highly recommend this table, I am completely satisfied with the way it looks and connects table top to base. I purchased it to use on my balcony and it is so heavy and perfect for such use. The price is perfect, it arrived QUICKLY, shipping charge was reasonable considering how fast it arrived. I would do it again if I have a need for another table. |
